Welcome back to One Piece, everyone! The series was on break last week due to it being Golden Week in Japan, but now the show’s ready to continue. As you recall, last chapter ended with Big Mom unexpectedly attacking Ulti and Page One for the Beast Pirates destroying Leftover Town. On the surface, it seems like she’s on the Alliance’s side, but I said that this wasn’t likely. However, that’s not the big moment for this chapter. That honor falls to Nami, as she reminds us why angering her is one of the dumbest things you can ever do.

Okay, I admit it. When the Joint Training Arc first started, I thought that it was a snooze fest. But then we saw got to see what the Hero Course is really capable of, and now I’m hooked on it. Last time we were here, the score was tied with one win for Class 1-A, and another for Class 1-B. And the Joint Training Arc continues to heat up! Or in this case, freeze up.

Okay, I admit that I thought that this season of My Hero Academia started out slow. However, now that the joint training arc has begun, things have started to pick up. We’re seeing just what the students of the Hero Course are capable of, and they’re all quite formidable. Case in point, Fumikage Tokoyami, who has one of the coolest Quirks in the series, gets the spotlight this episode as he unveils a new move: Black Fallen Angel.

It’s Official: Shinso is Awesome!

I remember telling you guys last week just how highly I thought of Shinso’s Quirk, Brainwashing, right? In the right circumstances, it can subdue a villain without any injuries or collateral damage. Since that often wont’ happen, though, we have to see how Shinso holds up in an actual fight. And I think that he does pretty well. Not only that, but the fighting animation for this episode is pretty darn good!

If you folks will recall, the first time that Luffy fought Kaido, he didn’t leave a scratch on him and got thrown in Udon Prison. However, this led Luffy to discover that he can level up his Haki to let him hurt foes without even touching them. He trained his butt off to learn how to use his Haki like that, and it looks like it paid off. But it’s only now that we see the true extent of his power! Luffy finally takes his Haki to the next level, and it is glorious!

I’ll be honest with you guys going in. The Joint Training Arc of My Hero Academia wasn’t among my favorite parts of the story. It’s been more than a year since the end of the last season of My Hero Academia. From the perspective of 2020, though, it might as well be a lifetime. Thankfully, the vaccines are rolling out, which means that we can slowly start returning to a new normal. And the arrival of spring brings MHA’s fifth season! And while I may be writing more now than I was at this time last year, I can’t resist wanting to get in on the anime. Granted, I will simply be reviewing rather than recapping like I did last year in order to conserve time, so it balances out in the end. Two weeks ago, we saw Oda deal out wild card after wild card in the war for Wano. First, Kaido reveals his plans to turn Wano into a Pirate Empire. Secondly, he seemingly kills Orochi and forces his men to join him or die. Thirdly, Nami and Carrot have been captured by Big Mom. Worst of all, though, Momonosuke is gonna be killed. Yet the Yonko remain unaware that the jaws of the Alliance are about to snap shut on them as Momonosuke lives up to the meaning of his name.

Well, folks, here we are at the end of this season of My Hero Academia, and what a season it’s been! In a world without the Symbol of Peace, All Might, society’s more on edge than ever.
Things have been low-key since Overhaul’s defeat, with the show focusing on the students. Yet in the penultimate episode, we saw the Pro Heroes return to the spotlight, now lead by Endeavor. He’s always wanted to be the Symbol of Peace (or at least No. 1), and when a deadly new Nomu attacks, he has his chance to prove himself. He. Does not. Waste it.

You know, it’s almost funny when you think about it. Right now, the world of My Hero Academia is going through some tough times. Meanwhile in the real world, everyone’s hunkering down from the pandemic. But you know what, it’s in these trying times that we need to remember how to smile and have fun.
