Edens Zero Chapter 78 Cover Page

Mashima’s Reusing Another Trope of His

I’ve read most of Hiro Mashima’s works as a mangaka before. As a result, I think I can recognize a lot of recurring tropes his creations. Firstly, he likes doing a lot of fan service. However, there’s another trope that he’s used in most of his stories. What is it, you may ask? It’s where the main female lead has some big reveal about her past that will have an effect on the story going forward. I’m only bringing this up because that’s exactly what happens to Rebecca in this new chapter of Edens Zero.

Rebecca, The Fox McCloud of Edens Zero

Rebecca’s already proven herself to be a fairly capable fighter. She’s resourceful, has great reflexes, and a good shot. However, she’s also got a lot of latent potential, and we see it on display in this chapter. It’s a good old fashioned dogfight as Rebecca fights the Element 4’s Sylph.

War On the Scarlet Woman Kurenai

I know I do Edens Zero every week on my blog, but for some reason I was feeling lazy last week. So rather than do two separate blogs, this time I’m just going to do the two latest chapters together. Besides, they weren’t that long, so I can get away with it. In these two chapters, the conflict with the Scarlet Woman Kurenai escalates to open hostilities.

The Strange Thief of the Slums

In the last chapter of Edens Zero, Rebecca was subjected to a humiliating prank by Labilia with the false promise of getting her to the slums to save Shiki and Homura. In the end, they did get the help of fellow B-Cuber, Nino. Meanwhile, Shiki fires the opening shots on a war against the Scarlet Woman’s rule when he defies her enforcer Garret to rescue Homura.

The Gilded Planet of Sun Jewel

In the last chapter, the Edens Zero gained an unexpected new guest in the form of the mysterious Captain Conner. Thanks to his incredible flying skills, they got to Sun Jewel in less than a day. That’s all well and good, but considering its reputation as the space version of Las Vegas, I’m concerned. I’m almost sure that Sun Jewel has a dark side to it.

The Mysterious Captain Conner

In the last chapter of Edens Zero, Shiki and the gang learned that the last of the four Shining Stars, Valkyrie, is on the planet Sun Jewel. Thus, they set sail for the last crew member they need before leaving the Sakura Cosmos. But they run into an unexpected detour in the form someone called Captain Conner.
