Kuma Wrecks the Celestial Dragons, and its Awesome!

One Piece Chapter 1092 Review/Recap
On the last Piece of One Piece, the Navy assault on Egghead Island began in earnest, as Kizaru’s take down of Sentomaru turned the Pacifista’s to the Marines side. As chaos erupted, Kizaru went for the kill, after the Vegaforce 01 and the Sunny. Thankfully, Luffy intercepted the Admiral to buy time for their getaway. When things look like they can’t get any crazier, though, they do. Gear Fifth beats the drums of liberation again!
In other news, Kuma continues his rampage in Mariejois, so that’s awesome.

Recap

In the Holy Land of Mariejois, Kuma continues his rampage unabated. The Holy Knights are powerless to stop him, and the Celestial Dragons complain about being in danger and not getting to eat their favorite foods. Finally, Akainu personally steps in, confounded over what a mindless cyborg like Kuma could be trying to do.

Despite hitting him with the same attack that tore off half of Whitebeard’s face, Akainu fails to stop Kuma. The former Warlord escapes using his powers.

On Egghead Island, the Marines have landed as Kizaru battles Luffy inside the Labo-phase. Unlike their last bouts, though, Luffy holds his own, even as Kizaru laments having to kill Vegapunk. However, Kizaru’s light powers give him the upper hand, hitting Luffy at light speeds. Luffy’s thrown against the dome, and worse, eviscerating the Vegaforce-01!

The Straw Hats and Bonney desperately try to hold Kizaru back, but it’s useless. They can’t stop him from making it inside the lab where Vegapunk and the others are, right as they crack the code to unlock the force field. Thankfully, before Kizaru can kill them all, a giant, pissed off Luffy in his Gear Fifth form shows up and grabs Kizaru, to everyone’s shock!

In the junkyard, though, the ancient robot that Vegapunk failed to get online starts to power up.
Review
I know I sound like a broken record when I say this, but now’s a great time to be a One Piece fan.
With all the excitement about Luffy and Kizaru’s rematch, I forgot Kuma’s ascent to Mariejois. Seeing him use his powers to waste the Holy Knights was immensely satisfying, but what was even more satisfying was seeing the Celestial Dragons complain about the current state of things. The actions of the Revolutionaries are starting to make them feel the squeeze as their food stores begin to run low. After centuries of making the world suffer, they’re on the verge of getting a dose of karma everyone thinks they deserve. Even Akainu seems disgusted when the ungrateful nobles complain about failing to capture Kuma.
As for what Kuma’s after, that remains unknown. However, his actions indicate that he might not be a mindless puppet, contrary to what everyone thinks. He has a goal in mind, and some part of his will drives him to pursue it. I’m hoping the arc’s epilogue will reveal more about Kuma, but we’re in the dark for now.
Kizaru is So Screwed Right Now!
Meanwhile, it’s great seeing Luffy fighting on equal terms with the man he once had to run from. Kizaru won’t go down easily, and given the time crunch, fully beating him might not even be an option. Hiwever, the fact that Luffy is now in Gear Fifth could let him overcome Kizaru’s light-powers.
Which brings us to the biggest surprise of the chapter: the Iron Giant. While we already knew it was connected to the Ancient Kingdom and the Void Century, the end of this chapter confirmed that it was also connected to the original Joy Boy. It’s possible that, like Zunesha, the Iron Giant was a companion or ally of Joy Boy. Given the fact that it awoke to the sound of Luffy’s heartbeat, it is connected to him, though.
In the immediate future, the Iron Giant’s awakening gives Luffy and the others another means to escape Egghead Island. Hopefully, the next chapter or two will see the Giant play a critical role in the ongoing fight. It may even help destroy the attacking Navy Fleet if we’re lucky. For now, though, I’m looking forward to seeing Luffy manhandle Kizaru.
Netflix’s One Piece is Getting a Second Season
On a related note, though, One Piece got news this week that Netflix has chosen to renew the live-action adaptation. Whether you’re a fan of it or not, this is a big win for the franchise. It’s unprecedented success on Netflix has made the series more popular. In addition, tomorrow will see the epic climax of the Wano Country arc in the anime, which will surely be a big deal.
I’m looking forward to seeing what happens!
