Edens Zero Chapter 201 Review/Recap

Now I’m even more confused about what’s going on, Mashima. First, you show us that flash forward back in chapter 4 to show us how time’s gonna be all wonky in Edens Zero. Then you never bring it back up to years later. What the heck is going on, because I’m lost!

Oh, and Holy does some stuff this chapter.

So, having learned about Ziggy’s dead-Mom-Ether plan, the Crew has a moral dilemma: go through with their plan, or try to save the Mom’s. Ultimately, they compromise: they’ll save their Mom’s and any others they can, then begin Operation: Planet Eater.

Aboard the Edens Zero, the ship has almost cleared a path to Deadend Crow, and it’s main cannon is nearly charged. However, Crow can absorb energy blasts, and his armor’s too tough for projectiles. Nonetheless, Holy insists they can beat him by aiming for his core. Using her Knight Gear to trace the Ether to his core, Holy unleashes her Ether Gear, Melt.

It doesn’t work. Right as the cannon finishes charging, Crow absorbs Holy into his body.

In the future, the two travelers confirm the human man is alive while the woman is not. Despite being extinct, they resolve to take both to their base on the planet Eden.

Review

Now I’m even more confused than before. Is Mashima trying to mess with us now? Because it’s working.

First up, I think that the Crew’s choice is the best they can make in a bad situation. They cannot save everyone, but at least they can save a few of the women. Rebecca can get some answers from her Mom. And the others can give their Mom’s a proper burial. Except for Homura’s Mom. She can get blasted into a star for all I care.

There are only two things that I actually cared about regarding the fight against Crow, though, and one had nothing to do with the fight itself. Is it just me, or is Hermit acting a little strange? Maybe Killer’s still inside her system and lying in wait or something.

The second thing is that I think Holy will end up using her Ether gear to melt Crow from the inside out. It’s what I would do if I were her.

Lastly, the flash forward is just confusing me more and more, and I love it. I need to know more, because it’s obvious that this stuff has to do with Shiki. Is this what will happen in the worst case scenario? Human life gets wiped out? That’s very dark.

Middling chapter, overall. Not as fun as the last one, though.

I Give “Meet” a 3/5

  1. Hermit might be infected- maybe she’s subtly getting reprogramed by Killer to become the new “Brain of Edens” in his place. Which would lead into a whole character developing situation for Sister, should Mashima go down this route.
Yeah; Holy’s gonna melt her way right to Crow’s core, and might find the “precious thing” he took from her. And then she’ll melt him down from the inside. Gruesome, but perfect for her character, I’d say. Though I wish we knew more about him.
The flashforward is throwing me off, too. Maybe Shiki’ll get an idea of what’s going on when he gets into Ziggy’s memories……… JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING. I’ll talk about it in my review!
