Well, That Was an Interesting Plot Twist!

Edens Zero Chapter 199 Recap/Review
Okay, so the Edens Zero manga hasn’t been that interesting for the last few chapters. For a while, it looked like the good guys lost against the Dark Stars. Instead, it was all a series of fake-outs. Lame. However, it seems like the manga’s finally getting interesting again. The last newest chapter dropped a big plot twist on us, and it’s a decent one!

Recap

With the Edens Zero now safe and the grunts out of the way, the ship can launch its assault on Deadend Crow, with Holy leading the charge. Justice, on the other hand, attracts the attention of Aconella, who drops a virtual nuke on him as Elsie remains helpless. In the space above Lendard, the Interstelar hold their ground, but they’re facing off against all the Oracion Seis Galactica (minus Shiki and Elsie). Even Saintfire Nox.

On the ground, Shiki and the others head for the planet’s core to unleash Rebecca’s Ether. However, they get sidetracked by faint life signs in an abandoned factory. When they get inside, they’re horrified to find it lined with women, all kept in stasis. Worse still, Ziggy arrives and reveals that they’re all mothers. Mothers of humans possess a special type of Ether. To drive the point home even further, Ziggy shows them one particular mother: Saintfire Nox of the Oracion Seis Galactica…and the mother of Rebecca.
WHAAAAAAAAAAATTTT???????
Review
Well, there’s a plot twist for you! A very disturbing plot twist, though.

Firstly, let’s talk about the elephant in the chapter with all the mom’s held captive. Weisz’s mom is there, confirming that Killer wasn’t messing with him. Homura’s birth mother is there (I thought she was spending the rest of her life as a slave.) The fact that Ziggy claims they all have a special kind of Ether means it has something to do with the Mother. This has to be some sort of plan of Ziggy’s to locate Mother.

As for Saintfire Nox, while this plot twist did surprise me, it was mainly because…why did Mashima add that? He’s never made that big a deal about Rebecca’s parents until now, and frankly, it wouldn’t have affected the plot. In addition, Nox abandoned Rebecca, so unless she had a good reason, why should Rebecca care? The Edens Zero is her family.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to the next chapter and see how Mashima pulls this off. Decent plot twist, Mashima.
I Give “Saintfire Nox” a 3/5

No, really; WHAT WAS THAT? I’m taken aback, too! Even if Rebecca’s parents were going to have some kind of role in the story- I didn’t think one would appear in THIS arc.
I feel like Mashima might be trying to “replicate” the chaotic nature of Foresta- the aspect of “setting things up” by revealing something, having characters meet with each other, and teasing other elements of the story. But it’s just……. not as fun.
Ms. Steiner and Kureani are now back in the story. If they continue passed this arc; I wonder what their roles will be?
