One Piece Chapter 1036 Review/Recap
Firstly, I just want to say Happy New Year, everyone!! I’m back and ready to continue covering the entertainment world, especially anime and manga. And for the last four years, I’ve been covering One Piece throughout one of its best arcs, the Wano Arc. We’ve seen the war for Wano go from being a daring suicide mission to an all-but-assured win for the Alliance. Almost all of the Yonko’s forces have fallen, and Kaido and Big Mom are the last big threats left to deal with. So, now that the preliminary round’s over, let’s get to the main event. The moment we’ve all been waiting for: the final battle between Straw Hat Luffy and Kaido the Beast!!!
Having used up the last of his strength, Zoro manages to take King down for good. As a result, all of the Flying Six and All-Stars are either down for the count or have defected. Now, all that’s left in the way of the Alliance’s victory is the big bosses, Big Mom and Kaido. There’s still a few other problems, though.
Firstly, if Momonosuke doesn’t find a way to keep Onigashima from falling, it’s going to crush the Flower Capital. If Kanjuro’s fire demon reaches the army, it will blow the island up. And most of the Alliance heroes are down or on their last legs. In the crawlspace where Kin’emon and Kiku have been left, Usopp holds off the Beast Pirates while also chewing the Scabbards out for being so willing to die. Fortunately, they don’t have to worry about that; Izo shows up to save his brother and let Usopp take them to safety. Meanwhile, CP0’s back on the march, and everything is in chaos.
And at the very heart of this chaos is the fight that everyone’s been waiting for: Luffy vs. Kaido. Now fighting on even footing, the two show no signs of stopping their battle. In fact, they’re starting to enjoy themselves.
This is one of those chapters where a lot got thrown at us, but I’ll do my best to cover it.
Firstly, the defeat of the All-Stars means that, besides Kaido and Big Mom, the Yonko have no remaining officers left to control the other pirates. It’s almost every man for themselves at this point, with the remaining Beast Pirates now just trying to survive. None of that will matter, though, if Yamato and Momonosuke can’t stop the island from exploding.
As for Usopp, I’m proud of him for what he said to Kin’emon and Kiku. I understand that honor is important to a Samurai and that they think it’s better to die rather than live with disgrace. As noble as that sounds, though, it’s also a bit selfish. They have people that need them to live to rebuild Wano; what would Oden say if they died now, before the war was won?
We should also note that Sanji’s eyebrows have returned to normal, which is a good thing.
As for Luffy and Kaido, if there were any doubts before, they’re gone now: these two are on equal footing. Kaido’s getting what he always wanted: an enemy that can actually kill him, so he’s having the time of his life. It’s amazing how much Luffy’s improved in such a short amount of time!
The next chapter won’t be out for two weeks, but that just means it will be worth the wait. This will be one of the biggest fights One Piece has ever seen!
