Sorry, Hawkins, but That’s the Way the Tower Crumbles

One Piece Chapter 1029 Review/Recap
Have you ever learned about tarot cards before? I never got into them until JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, but they’re said to have important meanings. The star represents hope, inspiration and renewed faith. The ever-famous World represents the end to a cycle of life and the start of something new. However, what’s most relevant to this chapter is the Tower. The Tower represents upheaval and change to the established order, and that’s what we are seeing. Wano is witnessing the fall of two Yonko and the birth of a new order.

Recap

Picking up where we left off, Sanji’s begun to realize that the dormant abilities found in his siblings are manifesting in him. While this excites Queen to no end, Sanji’s terrified, as he’s afraid he’ll become a cold-hearted killer like his brothers. Thus, he hightails it until he can figure out what’s going on, while Queen pursues him.

Meanwhile, the fight against Big Mom’s going poorly. Thanks to Hawkins’ powers, Kid can’t fight back, leaving Law alone to face the Yonko. Likewise, Killer can’t fight Hawkins without hurting Kid in the process. However, Killer then gets an idea. Like a blade of wind, Killer slices off Hawkins’ left arm, one that Kid doesn’t have. Thus, the damage gets nullified. Killer then launches a furious assault, plowing through the last of Hawkins’ strawman dolls. In desperation, Hawkins draws a new tarot card. To his horror, though, he sees that it’s the Tower, signifying the fall of the old. Thus, Hawkins is defeated, and Kid’s free to fight Big Mom without any hindrance.
Review
Well, color me impressed, Oda. I never expected you to use something like a tarot card to symbolize the fall of the Yonko. The Tower is a very appropriate card to represent the Wano Arc, though. After all, the fall of the old and brittle encapsulates the collapse of the balance of power in the world. Kaido will fall in Wano, and Big Mom may go with him.
With Hawkins out of the way, the only major threats outside of the Yonko left are King and Queen, and something tells me that they will be dealt with very soon. However, Sanji needs to come to terms with the fact that he’s getting these new powers, but I doubt he will lose his humanity. Not as long as he has his crewmates to keep him grounded. Also, once he uses them to their full advantage, Sanji’s going to be even more of a badass than he already is. So, HURRY UP AND GET GOING, SANJI!
I Give “The Tower” a 3.8/5
