Round Two Goes to Kaido, But Luffy’s Not Out!

One Piece Chapter 1014 Review/Recap
At this point, I think that we should be expecting for Eichiro Oda to take breaks in between chapters of One Piece. It may be a drag, but not even his work is worth sacrificing his physical and mental health. In addition, these breaks help to build up suspense whenever we get an important chapter. For example, last chapter ended with LUFFY BEING THROWN OFF OF ONIGASHIMA BY KAIDO!!! WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED!?!? Sadly, we don’t know how Kaido beat Luffy for the second time, but that doesn’t make this chapter any less important. For a variety of reasons.

Recap

As Luffy plunges down to the sea below, Kaido proceeds to mock him for his failure to beat him and not being able to live up to Joy Boy’s hopes. Now that Luffy’s been defeated, Kaido proceeds downstairs to take care of everyone else, and kill Momonosuke. Firstly, he make an island wide broadcast to let everyone know that he defeated Luffy, and tells everyone that if they surrender, they can live to serve him. The Straw Hat’s aren’t having it, though.

Things aren’t going well for the Scabbards at this point, either. Kanjuro’s tracked Momonosuke down and is using his ink clone of Oden to get close to him. When Kiku tries to cut the traitor down, she hesitates at the sight of Oden, leaving her open to being stabbed by Kanjuro. As a result, Kiku’s mortally wounded, and seems to die in Kin’emon’s arms. Enraged, Kin’emon strikes down Kanjuro, seemingly ending him for good.
However, the bad news just keeps on coming. Kaido manages to track the group down, forcing Kin’emon to hold the Yonko off while Shinobu takes Momo as far away as possible. Meanwhile, Onigashima’s reached the island of Wano itself.

Review
There’s a lot to unpack in this chapter, so this will be longer than normal.
Momonosuke, the Sea Kings, and Saving Luffy

You just made your second-biggest mistake, Kaido. He automatically assumed that by letting Luffy fall into the sea, he was dead. Given that he’s a Devil Fruit user, that’s a logical assumption. However, this is Luffy we’re talking about. Even if he can’t move due to his injuries/the sea, he’ll make it out of this. Somehow, there’s a deus ex machine coming to save Luffy, and I think I already know what it is.
Notice how Momonosuke’s head started pounding like crazy and talked like he was hearing voices? That happened before, back on Zou. Momonosuke heard his voice and commanded him back then. In addition, we’ve seen Gol D. Roger and Luffy react like this when they listened to the voice of the Sea Kings. Thus, it stands to reason that Momonosuke can hear them, too. In other words, the Sea Kings are nearby and could end up saving Luffy.
So in other words, Kaido, you got your second strike. You didn’t make sure Luffy was dead before you took your eyes off him. The next time Luffy sees him, he’s going to win.
We Could Lose One of the Scabbards
I don’t want to beat around the bush on this one: we could end up losing one or more of the Scabbards before this fight is over. Since their fight with Kaido, they’ve been barely holding on as it is. And now Kiku looks like she’s out of the fight, and possibly dead. And now Kin’emon’s facing Kaido by himself, someone that he has no chance of beating.
The bottom line is, unless the Straw Hats’ famously good fortune kicks in, some of the Scabbards will die.
Who is Joy Boy?
This chapter marks the second time that Joy Boy has come up during the Wano Arc, with Kaido saying that Luffy couldn’t become ‘Joy Boy’. Oda’s not the type to drop something like this without a greater purpose. If he men After the extended flashback to Oden’s life, I’ve been convinced that this ‘Joy Boy’ is connected to the Void Century and the One Piece. Having heard Kaido’s offhand remark about Joy Boy, I’m all but certain. Joy Boy is connected to everything. While this may not be significant right now, my gut’s telling me that this will end up having a big impact down the line.

Luffy Will Return
If Kaido thinks that Luffy is down for the count, then he’s dead wrong. We don’t know how, but Luffy will make it out of this mess and come back to finish the fight. And the best part is that Kaido will be exhausted by the time that happens. As for Onigashima, I’m betting that it’s going to end up embedding itself into Wano and become the home for the Kozuki Clan. However, we can’t let it fall on the Flower Capital; it will kill tens of thousands.
I Give “A Lifelong Ham Actor” a 3.5/5. It Loses Points for Not Explaining How Kaido Won.

I don’t know if Luffy will be saved in some……”spectacular event” or anything. Actually; various people have pointed out; the Heart Pirates Submarine is still in the water, and is more than likely following Onigashima as it soars through the sky. It might be as simple as that.
That said; Momo’s “hearing” something- something EXTREMELY important. Maybe it’s Zunisha arriving to Wano? Which makes me wonder if it’ll use its trunk to prevent Onigashima from “crashing.”
Yo……..I’m REALLY scared for Kin right now. I hope that he isn’t dead……JUST yet. In my mind; his death will come in his beloved wife’s arms. As like a “Final Goodbye” to her, and FOR him. But the way this panel is looking…….it looks like Kaido FLATTENED him!! And I’m not talking “Steam Roller Going Over Bugs Bunny;” NO NO NO NO- I mean like his SPINE came out of his butthole on some “Mortal Kombat” sh!t. Also; have you seen the “Mortal Kombat” movie? If not; you should!
What do you think was the technique Kaido was referring to? ‘Cause the way it’s implied; it sounds like it was an “offscreen reveal.” What, uh………What did Luffy use on Mr Oni-Man?
I feel like Act 3 is winding down. And I think the “Great Tragedy” that’s supposed to happen is Onigashima falling to the ground. Though again; Zunisha could stop it. But that’s not gonna stop Kaido from trying to RUIN Wano- Gargantuan Ancient Elephant be D@MNED!!
