Deku Just Got Some New Powers!

My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 10 Review
There’s an old British saying, “when the penny drops.” In essence, it’s a metaphor for when a big realization hits a person. Or, in the context of a story, it’s the moment that makes us go “what just happened? This changes everything!” In this week’s episode of My Hero Academia, the penny drops. HARD!

Ever since the start of the season, Midoriya’s been dealing with a few growing problems regarding his Quirk. First, it started acting up in the middle of the night. Then, he spoke with the previous holders of One for All in his mind, much to his and All Might’s concern. However, all of that took a backseat to watching the Hero Courses fight each other. Until now, that is. As Deku and his team take to the field against Class 1-B, Deku find himself egged on by Monoma. He resists at first, but when Monoma insults Bakugo, something inside him snaps. As a result, his Quirk goes out of control and starts manifesting black tendrils!

I still remember how shocked I was when I first saw this moment in the manga. We had no idea what was going on, and were just as scared as Deku was. But once the past wielder’s of OFA explained what this meant, my shock gave way to pure excitement. One for All’s not just capable of passing itself on to others; it combines with the previous holders Quirk’s and makes them even stronger than before. In other words, Deku’s got the potential to have nine different Quirks. Nine different powers.
This is a massive gamechanger, both in terms of the story and in a meta sense. If Deku can master all nine of the Quirks contained in One for All, he won’t just be the greatest hero in his story. He may end up becoming one of the strongest superheroes in all of fiction! And if you’ve read the manga, then you know that there’s more for Deku to unlock.

In the more immediate future, the final match of the Joint Training Session shall continue. I don’t remember what exactly happens, but I know that this is not something that we’ll want to miss out on. GO BEYOND, PLUS ULTRA!!

I Give “That Which is Inherited” a 4.5/5

Ah…..I’ve been awaiting this. And after this arc is done; we’ll get into THAT stuff. What a perfect segway point………
Oh yeah. That stuff
Was terrified and excited for Deku. Eraserheads choice to let the match continue surprised me. Looking forward to the next episode.
