An Epic Clash of Gravity! Shiki vs Shura Begins!

Edens Zero Chapter 142 Review/Recap
Golden Week in Japan is over, and that means we may now return to our regularly scheduled manga. In this case, it’s time for some more Edens Zero! The last chapter finally saw Shiki come face to face with the psychotic Shura. And despite Shura’s best efforts to intimidate him, Shiki is not backing down. For the sake of all robots in the Aoi Cosmos, Shiki’s going to win. Let the fight of Shiki vs Shura BEGIN!!!
Also, does anyone else think that Sister looks amazing in that teacher getup?

Recap

As the battle rages in the space above Nero 66, the Edens Zero deals with the remaining defenders on the surface. The Shining Stars scramble their fighters to take out any ships that can get in their way. The remainder of the crew makes their way on foot towards Shura’s HQ and the All-Link.

As for the main event, the fight of Shiki vs Shura begins in earnest. Shura demonstrates the big difference between their Ether Gear. Unlike Shiki, who manipulates gravity around him, Shura can do that, and manipulate it around other objects. Caught off-guard, Shura manages to briefly get the upper hand. However, he then makes the mistake of thinking that restraining Shiki will stop him. That gives Shiki the chance to pull off this move!

Rather than be enraged, though, Shura’s impressed by Shiki’s might. So, instead of continuing the fight, Shura drops a bombshell of a question: does Shiki want to be his friend?
Review
I’m sorry, what? Did Shura really ask if Shiki wanted to be his friend?

If this were anyone else, I would dismiss this moment as trivial and meaningless. However, this is Shiki we’re talking about. His whole thing is trying to make friends with everyone he meets! It’s his biggest strength; and now, it’s his biggest weakness! The worst part, though, is the fact that I can’t tell if Shura’s being genuine or not.
If Shura’s being serious, though, then I don’t think Shiki should say yes. My guess is that Shura’s idea of friendship is having Shiki work for him. Or just as bad, he actually wants him to be his friend, but will be a very toxic friend. And if this is a ploy, then Shiki could end up falling for it.
I personally love this idea, though. It could potentially be a major moment in Shiki’s character development. He’ll have to acknowledge the fact that there are some people that he can’t be friends with. At least, not in the state that they’re in, like Shura. It’s a hard lesson, but I think that Shiki has to learn it. But if he makes it through this without being jaded by it (which I know he will), then I will consider it a major victory for him. In the meantime, enjoy this image of Moscoy cosplaying as Shiki.

I Give “Shiki vs Shura” a 3.9/5

You’re right; this moment could be a big point of Shiki’s character development. He said to Weisz that it would “take time, but you can be friends with anyone.” Shura would either be his boss, or a toxic friend like you said. And if Shiki realizes that here, then that will begin his quest to change Shura so they CAN be friends. THAT would be a fun redemption arc!!
It’ll be interesting to see how Weisz team gets to the All Link- particularly how they plan to contend with the Oceans. There’s a lot going on and I’m ALL FOR IT!!!!
