Edens Zero Chapter 132 Review/Recap
So, I think that we can all agree that, whatever Mashima has planned for Edens Zero, Rebecca’s going to be a big part of it. Time and again, we’ve seen how powerful her ability to manipulate time can be. A power that she’s only started to scratch the surface of, at that! The path forward is obvious: if Rebecca wants to keep up with everyone, she’ll need to master her time Ether. She’ll need to become a Time Witch.
That’s not something I made up, by the way. Time Witch is going to be a very real term going forward in the story.
Picking up right where the last chapter left off, everyone’s shocked by the sudden appearance of Ziggy in the VR world. They’re left at a loss at what to do. Then, to make things worse, Ziggy separates Shiki from the others and begins to use his Satan Gravity to torture Rebecca. All Shiki can do is watch. That is, until his anger lets him break free and activate his own Ether Gear.
That’s when its revealed that this was all a test by Xenolith to get him to use his Ether Gear. Xenolith’s impressed by this, but that doesn’t change the fact that he intends to continue training them all like crazy for the next six days. Everyone, that is, except for Rebecca. Xeno senses that Rebecca’s Ether is weaker than the others, but is also the most special. Later, in the bath, she laments her apparent weakness, but then decides to take the time to train herself. That’s when Witch comes in and reveals something interesting about the baths: by training in them, she can amplify the growth of her Ether. In other words, Witch plans to train Rebecca to become a time witch.
A time witch, huh? From the sounds of it, a time witch is someone that’s capable of manipulating time. Time is one of the forces that governs the fabric of reality; that alone makes anyone who can manipulate time very powerful. And as we’ve seen several times already, Rebecca’s Cat Leaper has a lot of dormant potential. If she could fully master her abilities, she could potentially become one of the strongest people in the universe. Also, the title of “Time Witch” sounds dope as hell. Perfect for the leading lady of Edens Zero.
Time witch speculation aside, did you guys notice how Shiki couldn’t activate his Ether Gear until he saw Rebecca’s life seemed to be in danger? And then there’s these two scenes:
I normally keep my shipping to myself, but since it’s obvious that Rebecca and Shiki have chemistry together, I’m going to come out and say it: I SHIP THEM!
Oh, and I liked the reveal of the relic of Foresta. While a bottle cap may seem completely stupid and pointless, maybe that’s the point that Mashima’s trying to make. All these random objects are imbued with Mother’s Ether, but why? There has to be an answer to it somewhere in the universe. And we’re going to find out one day!
Bottom line, I think that this chapter’s going to mark a turning point for Rebecca moving forward. If she can become the time witch like Witch says she will, then she could end up helping to save the universe one day. It’s Mashima, so that’s a given no matter what.
I Give “Time Witch” a 3.8/5
